People were scared of what witches could or would do with their power. They considered all witches evil, which was not, in fact, the case. Indeed, there were evil witches, but there were also good witches.
people believed in witches in the 17th century because of the world was 'upside down'. the war was on, so people were putting bad things down to witchcraft. also, the witchfinders (people who searched for the witches) made people believe in them by finding 'witches', for some reason, so then there were symptoms, so people believed in them because there was PROOF of them existing. proof was also found by doing tests such as ducking (dipping in water, if they sink there innocent, if they float they are a witch, and are killed)
None of those killed (with the possible exception of some of the homosexuals) had been charged with any crime or convicted of anything ...so at least 6,000,000
Because at the time, the only explanation for extraordinary ideas and accomplishments was witchcraft. So people accused of witchcraft or knowing a witch would either be killed or forced to reveal the location of other witches (which they lied about because witches are fictional)
there are some some good witches and bad witches good witches used there power to heal people bad witches used there powers to kill people some people killed witches and hunt them down the witch hunters put witches on crosses and made sure when they caputerd them they hold them up so they can not use their powers to talk to the devil from below
There are many people whom identify as a Witch today. Some of these people are also known as Wiccans however not all Witches are Wiccans.
People back during the Salem Witch Trials became so paranoid that they thought anyone acting strangely were witches.
Macbeth killed banquo. Because Macbeth heard the witches say he will also be king. so Macbeth saw him as a threat to the throne and lets just say did something bad to banquo (killed him)
In 16th century, the Catholic church (Vatican) announced war against Witchcraft. Catholics have killed so many innocent people in the name of their god delusion. As a result, common people go to know about what was meant to be secrets. This was unexpected by the Catholic church, therefore, they also prohibited the belief of Witches, that even Witches does exist.
No US presidents have been impeached and convicted and so removed from office.
I wouldn't say that they were discovered so much as falsely accused. Witches are mythical (at least in the sense that you mean).most were discovered by towns people wrongfully accusing people because they did not like them but some tryed to prove a point that witches were not devil worshiper but they just ended up being killed
Because they were accused of robbing and murdering a shoemaker and his guard, but died without a fair trail since they were anachist Italians. And Sacco's gun matched that of the bullet that killed the guard.
Because back then they thought that witches were really bad people so the people who they thought were witches actually weren't it was just a disease that people were getting from eating really moldy bread.
