Which unit of measure would you use for the mass of a tv?

Mass has the following units in the metric system. 1 milligram = 0.001 gram 1 centigram = 0.01 gram 1 decigram = 0.1 gram 1 kilogram = 1000 grams Here are the symbols for those units. 1 milligram = 1 mg 1 centigram = 1 cg 1 decigram = 1 dg 1 gram = 1 g 1 kilogram = 1 kg To see which unit to use, we look at the object. A tv, is way more than a gram or a milligram,so those don't make sense to use, even though we could. We would use kg.

Which way should you move the decimal point to convert from a smaller unit to a larger unit in the metric system?

You move it to the left. As the unit gets larger, the base number gets smaller. One gram would be .001 kilograms. A kilogram is much larger than a gram, so the base number would be smaller to make up for being represented by a larger unit.

Can you use a pan balance to measure them mass of an object?

Yes. You would need some way of keeping the orange on the balance though. I would suggest placing a bowl on the balance, correcting for it's weight, and then measuring the combined weight of bowl and orange.
