I was 37 weeks and 4 days pregnant and was 2 cm dilated and my cervix was 70% ready for 2 weeks before I gave birth. I would say it is any time now... GOOD LUCK!!!

Not sure if it is common or not but I was diagnosed with a shortened cervix at 16 weeks. My cervix had fallen to 2.8. I was placed on bedrest for one week. At 17 weeks, it measured 2.3. At 18 weeks, my cervix grew to 3.4. So I do know that it is possible. Good luck.

If your cervix is really 4cm dilated (not sure what the 80 is) at 34 weeks you should be at the hospital as your baby could be born anytime and at 34 weeks your baby will be pre-term and need extra support.

When your midwife tells you that it means that your cervix is beginning to ripen and possibly efface and dilate. Currently im 1 cm dilated 60% effaced and have been in labor but not "active labor" for the past week. My cervix isn''t dilating so they dont consider that "active labor".

It could be hours, days or weeks. In my case, I was 36 weeks 6 days, lost the mucous plug and had the baby 5 hours later. But, from what I've read, there is no firm correlation between how dilated you are or losing the plug and the length of time you have left.

I am a labor and delivery nurse and see this all the time. The answer to the question is that the more children you have the more lax your cervix becomes. We call this, unofficially, a multip-cervix. If this is your fifth child having a cervix that is dialated even a few centimeters may just be the way your cervix is, not a sign of impending labor or even further dilitation at this point. You will most likely just walk around the rest of your pregnancy dilated 1+ cm. And that is normal and actually, to be expected from a cervix that has been dilated four times prior. Unless you are experiencing ongoing contractions, vaginal bleeding or fluid leakage you have not much to be concerned about. Of course make sure to keep your doctor updated with any changes in your condition. it only means that you are dialating early, I was 4 cm dialated when I had my daughter at 38 weeks, I dialated prior to giving birth with all my kids and they were all full term

Means your 4cm dilated and they can see your water through your cervix. So it can break any time. Just left labor and delivery tonight I'm also 4cm and bulging with baby number 3!!
