You always move the decimal to the right when dividing by a number which is not a whole number. For example: In the problem 100 divided by .01, you would move the decimal two places to the right for divisor and dividend leaving you with 10000 divided by 1.
You move decimal one place to the left when dividing by ten You move decimal two places to the left when dividing by 100 You move decimal three places to the left when dividing by 1000, etc...
Move the decimal point
When you are dividing.
The answer depends on the magnitude of the number by which you are dividing.
Because you are dividing by 100.
Move the decimal point, the same number of places as the power of 10. That way ---> to multiply. This way <--- to divide.
Because you are dividing by 100.
Move the decimal place two spots to the left.
Move the decimal point one place to the right.
Move the decimal point two places to the left. It is the same as dividing by 100.
because you are multiplying or dividing by 102 = 100.
Dividing 80 by 3.14 is the same thing as dividing 8000 by 314. All you have to do is move the decimal point over the same number of spaces on both numbers and then divide the way you normally would.
