A cube has 6 faces, 8 vertices, and 12 edges.

A cube is a solid with 4 faces on the sides, one on the top and bottom, so 6 all together. There is a famous formula from Euler that tells us how the edges, vertices and faces all relate:

Euler tells us the F+V-E = 2 where F is number of faces, V the number of vertices and E the number of edges.

For the cube we have 6 faces, 8 vertices and 12 edges.

6 + 8 - 12 = 2

Remember,

  • faces are the flat sides.
  • Edges are the lines where two of the faces meet.
  • Vertices are the corners where three or more of the faces meet.
