A tetrahedron is made up of four equal sided triangular sides (a pyramid has four triangular sides and a square base, but that's probably not what you were looking for). The triangle itself always has exactly three sides.

All triangles only have three sides. You might be thinking of a pyramid. A pyramid has 3 triangular sides, and a square side.

Ever see a D4???
A pyramid has a square base and four triangular sides, not three! The Op was probably referring to a tetrahedron, which has four triangular sides, including the base. Like the D4 that "Anonymous" mentioned.
