The London eye, The Big Ben, The Towerbrige, Oxford street, Buckingham Palace. The London eye is famous for that it is the world's biggest Ferris wheel and it will carry 800 passengers at a time on a thirty-minute ride. The Big Ben is famous for its clock and that it is a part of the Westminster palace. The Towerbrige is famous for its two towers and the site. Oxford street is famous for all of its shops. Buckingham palace is famous for the royal family who lives there. The London eye is in the centre of London. The Big Ben is also in London nearby the London eye. The Towerbrige crosses the Thames in greater London. Oxford street is the Oxford street in London. Buckingham Palace is on the dukes of Buckingham. The London Eye was formally opened by the then Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on 31 December 1999, although it was not opened to the public until 9 March 2000 because of technical problems. Since its opening, the Eye has become a major landmark and tourist attraction. Since 1 January 2005, the Eye has been the focal point of London's New Year celebrations, with 10-minute displays taking place involving fireworks fired from the wheel itself. Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and is generally extended to refer to the clock or the clock tower (officially known simply as Clock Tower) as well. The clock tower holds the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is the third-tallest free-standing clock tower. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009, during which celebratory events took place. The tower was completed on 10 April 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols of both London and England, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city. In the second half of the 19th century, increased commercial development in the East End of London led to a requirement for a new river crossing downstream of London Bridge. A traditional fixed bridge could not be built because it would cut off access by tall-masted ships to the port facilities in the Pool of London, between London Bridge and the Tower of London. Oxford Street is London's leading luxury shopping destination; a list of London shops, boutiques & department stores can be found at the Oxford Street London. Buckingham Palace was originally a grand house built by the Dukes of Buckingham for his wife. George IV began transforming it into a palace in 1826.
