Yes. An everyday occurrence of this circuitry is in your kitchen counter split receptacles. The top half of the receptacle is a 15 amp circuit and from the same breaker the bottom half of the receptacle is another 15 amp circuit. A two pole single handle breaker is a common trip. If one of the circuits fed from the breaker faults the other connected circuit will shut off also.

If you are talking about slot position in a breaker panel, you can remove the two pole breaker and install two single pole breakers.

Can you install a tandem breaker?

Tandem breakers, often called split breakers or double breakers, provide two separate circuits in the space of a regular sized breaker opening. Every circuit breaker panel has a limited number of circuit openings available. The problem is that when the openings are all used up and you still need to add another circuit, what do you do? You could change the electrical panel or double up circuits on a breaker, but this could place too much load on a particular circuit. So what then? The answer that many have found is a tandem breaker. This type breaker is the same size as any other breaker, but it has its difference. This breaker sports two smaller breakers built into one regular sized breaker. Each has its own breaker switch and the breaker snaps in just like a regular breaker. With this simple innovation, you can add a circuit and protect the circuit on its own dedicated line.

What kind of a GE circuit breaker can you use in place of a GE tandem breaker?

A GE tandem breaker can be removed and replaced with a GE single pole breaker.

How do you add more breakers to a main supply panel?

New breakers can be purchased separately, and simply snapped into place in the modern breaker panels. Turn power off to panel before removing breaker panel plate. If you do not know what you're doing, save your life and hire an electrician to do it.

Can you use a double pole 15 amp breaker in place of a 20 amp single pole breaker for a 12000 BTU air conditioner?

If the 12,000 BTU A/C only requires 20 amps to run then yes you can use the same 12 gauge wire but you cannot change it to a 15 amp breaker. You will need to install a 20 amp double pole breaker. If it requires more than 20 amps you will have to replace the wiring and breaker.

Can a double pole 15 amp breaker help?

No. In North America a double pole breaker is used to obtain a voltage of 240 volts from the distribution panel. What ever the amperage rating stamped on the handle of the breaker is, that is the amperage that the breaker will trip at.

It allows the electrician to organize the distribution of electrical circuits, and holds the circuit breakers firmly in place.

What is the maximum number of branch circuit breakers allowed in a 100 amp panel?

I just spoke with an inspector here in NJ today and according to him pending on what panel(squareD)in this case, it is 24 space but can be 48+. Stating that the breakers allow you to place two branch circuits on one breaker. Didn't make sense to me, being that while in school at my union it was 1 circuit for each breaker. Unless, some tandem breakers are used. Check the breaker and see what its rated for. Hope this helps.

How works oil circuit breakers?

A circuit breaker is a safety device that is put in an electrical circuit. When something fails, or shorts out, the circuit breaker "senses" the excessive current and automatically opens (or breaks) the circuit. They are used in homes, as well as some electrical devices. They are different than a fuse in that a circuit breaker can be reset. A fuse on the other hand, has to be replaced once it opens up. I hope this helps you. for more info, here is a web page about circuit breakers: Ciruit breakers
