A garage door opener and the garage light can be on the same circuit. The garage door opener has to be up stream (non switched 120 volt source) from the light switch and the garage light.

As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed.
Before you do any work yourself,
on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,
always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.
IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB
SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY
REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.
If the question is, can I wire a switch to an existing light fixture (and I must assume that it's something like a pull-chain light fixture), the answer is yes.If the question is, "how do I wire a switch to an existing light fixture that has no external switch", the answer is, "in series".The attached web site gives simple instructions on how to wire a basic light switch to an existing light.See sources and related links below
Yes it can. it is only a switch.
It just holds the bulb, does not have a switch in the fixture.
The light is wired the same as any voltage fixture. Bring the source voltage to the fixture and connect it to the two fixture wires. If you want to control the off-on of the fixture take the source voltage to a switch first and then out of the switch to the light fixture.
Piggyback off the box for the existing light. Run a wire from the existing junction box to a new junction box (which is placed wherever you want the new fixture). Then, in the existing box, connect the wire coming from the switch, the wire for the existing fixture, and the wire for the new fixture together using wire nuts. Wire up the new fixture, and presto, you have two fixtures on a switch where there was only one before.
some garage door motors have a switch or button on the motor that raises the door. This switch has to be turn to the program position. You will need to have the hand held garage door opener held about 2 inches from the opener on in the Navigator. 1. hold the button on the visor that you want to use for the for the garage until the light on visor changes. then press both the visor and hand held opener button at the same time. Pushing the the hand held about three time. I hope this works for you. It did for me.

That all depends on how your opener programs - if its smart button learning or dip switch. http://www.clickerdepot.com/help-faq .. there is a good explanation there. You should also look at the instructions that came with the remote.
There is no limit as to the amount of circuits you can have in a garage. If you mean how many devices on a 15 amp single circuit breaker then the answer is 12. Be sure to total in light fixture outlets and switch boxes.
You and your neighbor both have garage door openers made by the same company. Call the company and see if it is possible to switch the frequency of the opener, if not you'll have to get a new one.

This information can be found in your owner's manual. If not call the toll free telephone # listed in your owner's manual for help.
I believe you might be referring to the automatic garage door opener buttons. Check your owners manual, or contact a dealer, to learn how to program them so that you can use them instead of the separate door opener supplied by the door manufacturer.
Find out what circuit the lights are on by shutting off breakers until the lights go out. Find the wire that connects to that breaker. If there is no wallboard or insulation in the garage , follow the circuit to the light. If there is a switch then it will have to be somewhere in that circuit and before the light fixture. If your situation is different from this, please use the discussion page and explain.

You are after the brand setting for your present opener. Examining your current garage door opener remote will help here.Get the code setting from your current garage door opener or remote.Set the STCGDO dip switches according to what you figured out.I had a Genie 12 DIP switch code, so the first 9 settings from my original remote were the 9 switches on the STCGDO. The other three from my original were the first three on the second DIP switch bank on the STCGDO.The final three switches on the second bank of the STCGDO were the ones mentioned in the FCC's filing of the User Manual Page One, configured for my Genie.Good luck!
