You can't. You will need a 3way switch at each end with 12/3 or 14/3 wire run between them. Power at one switch and light wire at the other switch.

What is difference between single pole and double pole thermostat?

A single-pole switch is an on/off switch that switches a single wire such as the circuit to your overhead light. A double pole switch is also an on/off switch that switches two wires. You would use this to switch as 240 volt circuit (which requires two hot wires) or if you had two circuit you wanted to switch at the same time. I've used them when I had two large light circuits that required two breakers that I wanted to switch with one switch.

Can you make a shop light have an on off switch that plugs into a wall outlet?

Sure thing. Cut an extention cord in two. pipe it into an electrical box. Wire the white wire straight through. The black wire goes to the single pole switch. For safety wire the ground both straight through and to the switch.

How do you wire a light switch?

A light switch breaks one half of the circuit to the light. "CODE" says to break the black wire. I usually break the white since this is the ground and should have less chance of a shock from a bad switch. Since it is only half the circuit if you are replacing a switch it does not matter which wire goes to which terminal on the switch. This applies to a single pole switch. A double or triple switch is something else. If a light that turn on from only one place is a single. If it turns on from 2 places, two doorways into a room or top and bottom of stairs it is a two way switch and it does matter how it is wired. Nothing will blow up, it simply will not work from both if wired wrong.

How do you wire a light with two switches?

Use two three way switches. Hot feed comes to one switch. Wire to light goes from other switch. Two travelers (same size wire as other wires) are needed between the two switches.

How do you wire a two way switch one controls the outlet the other the outdoor light with a pigtail?

You need two separate switches. You can get two switches that are in the same form factor as a single switch (2 gang switch). You use one switch for the outlet and the other for the light. You switch the black wires which are "hot".

How do you wire a receptacle from two switches one is 3 way one is single pole?

You cannot wire a single pole switch and 3 way switch together.

How does a double pole switch work?

A switch is inserted in series with a single wire. When the switch is on, it is as if the wire had not been opened to insert the switch. When the switch is off the wire is open and no current can flow. All a double pole switch does is allows you to switch two separate wires at the same time with the same switch action. A single pole switch just switches one wire.

How do you wire a 3 way light swittch?

when wiring a 3 way light switch u have to have a hot side and a switch side meaning switch one out of the two will be fed with your power 120v or 277v/ the hot wire will connect to the black screw on switch one then run 3 wires to the other switch two of those three wires will connect to the other two screws on switch one and will connect to the same two screws on switch two the third wire is ur neutral wire the white wire u have to carry over to switch two just use wire nuts for the white wire ok now the black screw on switch two will connect to the black wire feeding the light and the white wire u carried over will go to the white wire going to the light also. so you will need to run 2 wires down to switch 1 a hot and neutral/then 3 wires from switch 1 to switch 2/and then 2 wires out of switch 2 going to the light, out of the 3 wires u run from switch 1 to switch 2 the white is the only 1 that goes out to ur light together with the black wire that is connected to the black screw on switch 2 hope u can understand this try draw it out as u read it

How do I wire one switch to control two lights with the power coming into light?

Using 14/2 or 12/2 wire, black, white and bare. Bring the hot/black wire in the light down to the switch on the black wire, through the switch and back to the light on the white wire. Connect the white wire in the power wire to the white wire in the light. Connect the white power wire from the switch to the black wire in the light. Run the black and white wires in the first light to the second light. You should wrap the white power wire from the switch with black electrical tape to cover the white so that the next person realizes it is a power wire.
