One Metre is 1,000 millimetres.

One inch is 25. 4 Millimetres (to the nearest 10th of a millimetre)

Divide one metre by 25.4 and you get 39.37" or

1yard (or 3 feet) and 3" and 37/100 of an inch.

Metric. So much simpler.
