If you mean plate tectonics, it is the geological theory that earth's lithosphere (crust) is divided into plates which float over the mantle due to earth's seismic activity, which occurs primarily at the boundaries of plates, creating folds and faults. This is in contrast to the theory of continental drift which maintains that the continents are slowly moving over a viscous layer deep within the earth.
