Actually the numbers are misleading. Most number are out of date and claim the the US is the worst in the world however, most of the data being is based on per capita and population numbers. The US' GDP is high because they sell more. An example of numbers being loosely affected by GDP would be China. They have a lower GDP but use more of their resources without exporting/selling. In an article from the WSJ, The International Energy Agency has studied and reported that China has passed the US in In Energy Consumption. This includes OIL and other Natural Resources. China passed the US by 4% as of mid 2010 ,just in Oil consumption, with an expected 5% growth each year.
