It is neither. Prime numbers have two factors, which are 1 and itself. Composite numbers have at least 3 factors, which are 1, itself, and at least one other factor. One does not fit either definition, since the only factor of 1 is 1.

(It used to be considered a Prime number, but they changed the rules sometime in the mid-20th century.)
