8 3/4 - 5 5/6

Subtraction of Fractions.

Steps to take

#1 ; Convert both fractions to improper (top hravy) fractions

#2 ; Calculate a common denominator

#3 ; Convert the numerators to equivalent values.

#4 ; Subtract the numerators

#5 ; place the numerator over the denominator

#6 ; bring to a mixed number.

Hence

#1 ; 8 3/4 - 5 5/6 = 35/4 - 35/6

#2 ; 4 x 6 = 24 .

#3 ; 35 x 6 = 210 & 35 x 4 = 140

#4 ; 210 - 140 = 70

#5 ; 70/24

#6 ; 2 22/24 = 2 11/12 The answer!!!!

NB Depending on how facile your arithmetic is , you should realise that '12' is a common denominator between 4' & '6' . There would be a corresponding reduction in the numerstors. This makes the numbers smaller all round.

NNB For addition of fractions follow the same steps, except at step #4 , where the numerators are added.

First it adds by 3. Then on 4, 8, 12 it adds by 4. On 5 and 10 it adds by 5. So i guess it is 3, 4, 5.
