Powers in math is the number times itself n times

For example:

5 to the third power mean 5 x 5 x 5=125

5 to the third power does not mean 5 x 3. It's five x five x five.

Powers in math are just fancy shorthand for multiplying a number by itself a certain number of times. For example, 2^3 means 2 multiplied by itself 3 times, which equals 8. So basically, powers are just a lazy way of writing out repeated multiplication.
