First off, empty set is another word for null set. They mean exactly the same thing. These terms are used in set theory, which is a type of math that studies groups of things (like numbers or shapes). If you have ever made a Venn diagram, you have used the principles of set theory.

For example, when you have a group of numbers such as {1,2,3,4,5}. Let's say that group of numbers is set A. Then you got another group of numbers, let's say set B, which is {6,7,8,9,10}. These are all the numbers in the diagram, that we will be talking about.

If you want to find what is not in set A or set B, there is nothing, because everything is either in set A or set B. So, the answer would be empty set, because there is nothing outside of set A and B.

Empty/Null Set Symbols: Ø and { }Both symbols mean the same thing.
