Use the following rules:

1. Any negative number on a temperature scale is colder than any positive number on the same scale.

2. If both numbers are positive, the one with the lower absolute value is colder than the one with the higher absolute value.

3. If both numbers are negative, the number with the higher absolute value is colder than the one with lower absolute value.

In this instance, rule 3 applies; therefore, -2C is less cold than -24C.
