Best Answer

Yes, 0.5 > .125.

If we look at the place values of our five and one, we notice they're in the tenths place. Remember that the further your numbers go down the line towards the right the smaller their place value is becoming.

Example: 0.1 and 0.01 are not the same.

0.1 is one tenth and 0.01 is one hundredth

1/10 vs 1/100

Since we both have a place value of tenths we look at the number. Which number is larger? 5 or 1? 5.

Imagine that 0.5 and .125 were pieces of pie. If we "accidently" ate so many pieces that we were left with 0.5 of Blueberry and .125 of Raspberry, which pie would we have to make more of to replace what we ate? The Raspberry because .125 is less available pie than 0.5.
