When we searched on-line for the area of Israel, we found sources that list 8,367 square miles

and other sources that list 7,992 square miles. We suspect that the difference may consist of

things like Gaza, the West Bank, Golan Heights, etc. We really don't want to get into all of

that right now, mainly because it has very little to do with the answer to this question.

We'll give you two numbers for each item below. The first one corresponds to

the smaller area of Israel ... 7,992 sq mi ... and the number in parentheses is

what you get if Israel is actually the larger number ... 8,367 sq mi.

-- The USA is 474.7 times (453.5) times the size of Israel.

-- Israel is 5.2 times (5.4 times) the size of Rhode Island.

-- Israel is 1.44 times (1.51 times) the size of Connecticut.

-- Israel is 8.3% (4.1%) smaller than New Jersey.

-- Israel is 24.3% (20.7%) smaller than Massachusetts.

It depends on how big you consider Israel to be.

If you use the internationally accepted boundaries, i.e. you exclude the Golan Heights, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, Israel is roughly the size of New Jersey.

If you include those territories, Massachusetts and Hawaii are both very close in area to Israel.

Very Small. Israel is smaller than the State of Maine. Is about 2 and 1/2 the size of Rhode Island.
