Usain Bolt
The fastest person on earth is Usain Bolt he ran the 100 in 9.58 seconds.
Well, to truly answer that question, you must be more specific. If you do not run track, or know the sport, here is a brief preview. There are different races you can run. Some of the most popular short distance sprints are the 100, and the 50. The 100 is exactly 100 meters, hence the name. (Also known as the 1.) The 50 is 50 meters, and so on. The record for these races are constantly being broken. (times are given in seconds.) I believe the record for the fastest 100 is held by the Jamaican olympic athelte Usain Bolt. His time was 9.69 seconds.(August 16, 2008) For the girls, it is Florence Griffith-Joyner of the United States. Her time is 10.49. (July 16, 1988.) The 50? That title belongs to Canadian Donovan Bailey. 5.56 in 1996. I do not know of the record for girls, but I heard it was in the fast 6-second range. If you are asking for something different, then it might be this. Usian Bolt achieved an average of 27.28 mph on his 100. Donovan Bailey later raced Usain on the 100, but ended up at 9.91, just 1 two-hundreth of a second slower than Usain, at 9.86. There are many different records: such as Bob Hayles, who ran his leg of the 400 relay in 8.50, (each leg is 100 meters, give or take the handoff space.) So I say that the fastest is 27-28 mph.
