How do you drag race in need for speed underground 1 PC?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is very tricky. off the starting line keep an eye on just above the center of your screen for the little blue/green/red icon. Blue=Ok. Green=Perfect. Red=BAD!!!!!!!!! when you see the Green, Shift Up to the next gear (it's the "Y" button if you on the Gamecube, I don't know about the rest). Sometimes your gonna need to Shift Down to go faster, trust me on this one, Buddy. You don't have to steer the car at all!!! It steers it self!!!! all you have to do is chanch lanes as you see cars ahead. you can also drive under the Tractor-Trailors!!!! cool, huh?

Why do they call the drag racing cars funny cars?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is only an educated guess, but back in the early part of the 20th century, the main street in any given town was referred to as "the main drag". Since organized drag racing grew from street racing, if you challenged someone to race from one intersection to the next, you are racing on the "main drag", thus "Drag Racing". Now why the street in town was called the "main drag", well, that is another question to be answered elsewhere.

Who are some famous drag racers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Nowdays there are a lot of women in drag racing. However. There is only 1 Queen of drag racing in my mind. She scratched, and clawed, and some would even say slept her way into drag racing, but that's not important. What is, is what she did when she got there. She backed down from no man, in fact challenged the best, she has many firsts in the sport, and some records that still stand unmatched, even today. She had her car burst into flames, and take her along with it, only to come back an step up to top fuel, from funny car. She won the seasonal championship, I think more than once, and turned the drag circuit up-side-down! Shirley Muhldowney, I think is how you spell it, was her name, and any woman in motorsports today owes her for paving the way for current standards. Curious? They made a movie about her, that, as far as I know, is pretty factual. Hoyt Axton, Bonnie Bedillia, "Heart Like a Wheel", is the name of it. Great flick.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Mustang would beat almost any muscle car by racing. Mustang has been known to beat the camaro. Motortrend has been doing tests and so has edmunds and Mustang has been beating the camaro since the 90s the new 5.0 mustang has been a huge popular car as one of the fasest mustang's and the camaro has been out of business since 2005-2009. Mustang's are a classic to ford and the mustang shelby gt500 2010 has been the fastest muscle car of the time. So if your looking for a muscle car pick the mustang!

What are Funny Cars?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Funny Car is a drag racing car class. Funny cars have forward-mounted engines and carbon fiber automotive bodies over the chassis, giving them an appearance vaguely approximating manufacturers' showroom models. The first funny cars were built in the mid-'60s and so-called because the rear wheels had been moved forward on the chassis to improve weight transfer under acceleration, increasing traction on the rear tires, which were oversized compared to stock. Looking at the cars, they didn't quite look stock, hence the name "funny."

What is drag in auto racing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Two drag racing cars go to the starting position, and the drivers wait for a light to turn from red to green. As soon as the light turns green, they floor the gas pedal and go as fast as they can up to the finish line. Then, the drivers deploy the parachute so they can stop, because a braking system would just weigh down the machine, and brakes are not adequate to stop a drag racing car from going over 300 miles an hour to 0. Then, the winners is announced with the exact times, and they start over with another pair of cars.

What determines categories in drag racing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Basically, how fast your car is is what determines what class you run in, when it comes to bracket racing. They wikk have brackets from, say, 14.99 and slower, 12.50 to 13.99, 10.99, to 12.49, and so on. In class racing you build a car to compete in a certain class, by the rules governed by NHRA, in their official rule book.

Why do dragsters have large back wheels?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most of the weight of the dragster (or rail job, or whatever) has been located at the rear so that the rear wheels get the most traction that they can. Since there is relatively little weight on the front wheels, they can be lighter duty than, say, a stock motor vehicle. A narrow wheel and hub will serve for the light load, and a narrow tire inflated to a high pressure has a low rolling friction compared to an ordinary auto tire. The hub bearings can be light duty and low friction as well, all adding up to lower rolling resistance and lower elapsed times for the dragster.

What does hole shot mean in drag racing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In a heads-up (even start) race that would be where the winning car had a slower Elapsed Time than the losing car. This occurs when the winning car and driver leave the starting line sooner then the losing car and even though it took longer to reach the finish line (from the time it left the start to the time it reached the finish) it got there first and won as a result of the better start. In a handicap (uneven start) race such as a bracket race, the same thing occurs additionally taking into account the differences between the handicap times (or dial-ins) and the actual Elapsed Times: The time between the green light coming on (the GO signal) and the car actually leaving the starting line is called the "Reaction Time" and most tracks measure this and supply the information to the driver at the conclusion of the race, on an "Elapsed Time slip" or "ET slip" (the info is printed on a slip of paper). If a driver looks at the results, and sees that he won even with a slower Elapsed Time, he will also see that he had a shorter reaction time. If the difference between 2 drivers' Reaction Times is greater than the difference between their Elapsed Times, the winning driver can claim that he had a "Hole-Shot Win". He won because he had a better Reaction Time even though his car was "slower"... By the way: The expression used to explain why the losing (although "faster") car lost is "He got Treed." For instance you can say: "I treed that duck with a hole shot..."Awesome!

How do you become a racecar driver?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

One of the most common questions I receive is: "My child wants to be a NASCAR Sprint Cup race car driver. How does (he, she) get started?"

The first thing is that it is never too early to start. All of the drivers you see on TV every week, no matter the type of cars, started out young (some as early as 4 years old) at their local race track or in karts. The hard part is to prove that you have some ability there, prove yourself there and you'll quickly find yourself moving up through the ranks. Keep it up and you'll find yourself catching the eye of a big name car owner.

The First Step

Go to your local race track (dirt or asphalt doesn't matter) and buy a pit pass if possible. Then go in and strike up a conversation with someone. Drivers, crew members and officials are all great resources with different perspectives on what it takes to get started at that track.

As long as they don't have pressing work to do most people will be more than happy to talk to you, but please be courteous.

Ask if they have a minimum age. Many tracks' age limit is lower than the state driving age. If your child is too young to race at that track then someone will probably direct you to a local karting association.

There are definitely no "gimmies" here. Hard work, practice, natural skill, luck and money all play a roll in your ability to catch a break.

Becoming a NASCAR driver is not just about your raw racing talent. There are a number of other factors that will determine whether or not you will ever see a green flag in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Physical Characteristics

Racing at it's highest level is a physically demanding sport. 500 miles with a 120 degree track temperature can be brutal. A regular exercise program will improve your stamina and help you stay sharp over the course of a long hot race.

Also, a slim and toned driver will have an advantage over one that's heavier. In racing every pound counts and that includes the driver as well as the race car.

Get A Good Education

In NASCAR sponsors are the true key to success. You need every possible advantage in order to represent the sponsors well.

A good education gives you the ability to speak well in front of the camera.

A racer represents his sponsor everywhere he goes. If you want a quality ride then you need the sponsors' money. Before they will write a check the sponsor needs to believe that you will represent them well.

In the early days of NASCAR you could drop out of school and be successful, with today's high-tech race cars and the ever increasing business side of the sport a high school education is the bare minimum. 1992 Winston Cup Champ Alan Kulwicki was the first ever to have a college degree, now it's becoming more and more common as drivers are realizing the importance of a good education.

Go For It!

Getting all the way to Sprint Cup is hard work. If you want to do it there is no "little bit." You've got to give it your all, all the time. If you make it you can be a legend, but if you don't make it you'll still have a bunch of fun and learn a lot along the way.

Good luck! And don't forget me when you become rich and famous.
