Are axolotls a sub-species?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The axolotl is a fascinating salamander that stays in its 'baby' form for life! Its unique biology has earned it the title of 'paedomorphic' species. You could say it's a species AND a subspecies, in a way. But the real magic lies in its ability to regenerate lost body parts, including limbs, tail, and even parts of its brain and spinal cord - making it a true marvel of nature! Why is a salamander classified as an amphibian and not a reptile?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Because amphibians largely dwell in aquatic habitats and have highly permeable skin, requiring them to remain near a water source so that they don't dehydrate. Their habits make them amphibious, because while they live in the aquatic habitat, they can come onto land for short periods. They are not reptiles, but are classified as herptiles however, and so they fit within the study of herpetology.

Asked by Wiki User

just the same way we do, the male's penis is just hidden. i have a couple of fire belly newts myself, they will reproduce if you have a male and female, but it will be very hard to catch. they might just look stacked on top of eachother like they sometimes do. you have to watch carefully if you reall want to know.
