How do you turn up the boost on a 99 wrx?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Easiest way is to get a Manual Boost controller.

Something like a GFB MBC (Manual Boost controller) is a very easy way to raise the boost. (Google GFB)

A Boost gauge is also mandatory if you raise the boost...otherwise you might turn it up to much and destroy the engine!

Install starter for 1995 Subaru Impreza?

User Avatar

two bolts holding the starter, 1 connected to the battery and another one though not sure what this was connected to. two bolts holding the starter: one on the top is easy to get to. might have been a 17mm. the bottom is easy if you have an extesion for your ratchet. start at the firewall and you can get to it fine. the bolt seems to be at an angle or something. i couldn't get a solid bite on it so be careful not to strip it. i think this was like 14mm, deffinitely not the same as the top. 1 connected to the batery. remove th rubber cover (just pull back with your fingers) and i think it was a 12mm. another one: this guy is below the wire to the battery. it's got a flat contact. just feel for the flat male end when reconnecting the wire back.

Just did this yesterday. The Top is a 17MM & bottom is a 14mm. The nut for the wire can be a different size on the new starter. That little 2nd wire IS IMPORTANT car won't start so make sure it's attached. You'll also need to use a stubby ratchet, not enough room otherwise. I use a quarter inch to three eighths adapter so I could use by quarter inch ratchet. Under 10 minuted to take out and under 5 to put back. Only tricky part is wiggling the starter out from under the hoses, but it can be done without taking anything else loose.

If your lowbeam headlights do not work but your highbeam functions fine where do you troubleshoot?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have the answer to your question about troubleshooting your headlights on your vehicle. I would isolate the wire that comes from the headlight switch to the headlamp bulbs for low beam and check to see if there is a short in the wire. You can find this wire by using a test light turn on the key and get a good ground with the test light poke the wire and see if the test light illunimates with the headlight switch on. Good luck!

check the wires, and check the fuse for your lowbeams. could of blown a fuse on your lows, but your highs will still work.

Every single time I have had a failure of low beam in a headlight without failure of high beam, it has been because the lamp bulb or halogen lamp module has reached the end of its serviceable life, not because of any wiring problems. Low beam burns out first because it is on the most. If low beam is lost simultaneously in both headlights, I would check fuse first, then the headlight switch. If low beam is lost on one side only, it is almost always going to be due to the bulb or lamp module needing to be replaced. In that case, replace them in both headlights because the other one will be going kaput in short order, as well.

ya i second that notion -anonymous feb '05

CHECK THE DIMMER SWITCH.THAT IS THE PROBLEM MOST OF THE TIME.

Measure for voltage at the light bulb clip first. It could be a bad set of bulbs. If you have no voltage, check fuses, and then check for voltage before the headlight switch. It could be a faulty headlight switch. Measuring a few voltages will tell you what the problem is.

Change the headlight bulb. 99% of the time it is the bulb that is the problem.

Most definitely check out the headlight dimmer control switch .... Ron J.

the lamp is probably bad easy to check look at it. hi beam light do carry more current and tend to fail sooner

If you change a Subaru Impreza transmission and rear differential from a 4.11 ratio to a 4.44 ratio will you have to change the rear hubs as well as the rear axles?

User Avatar

Asked by Bcollies

I just can't imagine why you would want to even attempt this. You know that you do need to change the front differential ratio at the same time. You do know that it is all wheel drive, right?. As for changing the rest of the driveline, you will need to ask the supplier of the differential whether the old parts will work with the new differential. There is no inherent reason why you would need to do so.

Incorrect.^^^ The front diff. is built into the tranny. You can bolt the 4.44 trans and rear right in no problems. Ive done it. The reason he would do so is to get a lower gear ratio for more low end, great for racing, rallying, etc. kinda low for cruising the highway, but usable.-Tomcat

Where is the thermosstat on a 1993 Subaru impreza?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

if you follow the lower radiator hose toward the engine, the thermostat housing is located at the end closest to the motor. I would HIGHLY recomend having a reputable shop change it, the bolts VERy commonly break in subarus, than you have to replace the whole water pump, which also includes a timing job.

Where is the fuse for the power windows in a 98 Subaru Impreza outback?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I think its fuse 18, the second from the left on the bottom row. This is among the inside fuses underneath the change container on left of steering wheel (just yank it out, fuses underneath)

However, if this fuse blows it takes the whole dash with it, my turn signals (just signals, hazards work), speedo, tacho, and power windows are constantly shorting out due to this fuse. Apparently also the reverse lights are also hooked to this. Real safe to drive this way, i can tell ya! Can't signal and can't lower windows to hand signal!

If just the power windows don't work this could be a sign that they specifically are disconnected, or perhaps their controls got unplugged.

How can the VIN be determined from a 2.5l Subaru engine number?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It can't. The the only thing that a VIN number has in common with the engine is the 8th digit of the VIN tells what type of engine it is. The VIN number though may allow the dealer to access the engine number from their databases.

Is a Subaru impreza WRX a sports car?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, the Subaru Impreza WRX, and the Subaru Impreza WRX STi can both be considered sports cars. Even though both of them only have a 2.0 or a 2.5 Liter, 4-cylinder engine, they both come equipped with a turbo charger, which gives them over 200 horsepower. Also, considering that they are much lighter than other sports cars, and considering that they are all-wheel drive, this gives them a good advantage while racing.

Depends on which year/model motor you are trying to use and which year/model you are trying to put it into. Subaru's are built like Lego and most parts are interchangeable, problem is there are substantial wiring modifications required for some swaps.

What causes a loud scraping grinding noise from the rear of your 98 Imprezza Outback Wagon when making right turns?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

i have the same problem on my 98. It sounds to me like the viscous clutch pack is sticking. Try driving around in figure 8's for about 15 minutes and see if that helps and if there is snow were you are do some power donuts in both directions and it should loosen up.Subaru said that you can jack up one side of the vehicle so that both wheels are off the ground and then block the other wheels, put in drive and then bring it up to 1500 rpm for about 8 minutes and that should loosen it up aswell but it doesnt sound very safe to me so i havent tried that yet but if you do and it works please post it thx and i hope that is your problem. If not it could be a wheel bearing or an axle.
