Georgia is third at 59,425, of which 57,880 is land, followed closely by Illinois, New York, North Carolina, and Alabama.

Florida and Georgia are the largest eastern states based on area. Florida ranks #22 among U.S. states based on total area (including land and water) and #26 based on total land area. Georgia ranks # 21 based on total land area and #24 based on total area. Other state rankings based on total area include #27 New York; #28 North Carolina; #33 Pennsylvania; #35 Virginia; #39 Maine; and # 40 South Carolina.
