That is correct; the square root of a number bears no relationship to the distance or other measurement.
In other words, it doesn't matter whether you're comparing centimeters to meters, ounces to pounds, inches to feet, feet to yards. The square root is just concerned with the actual number in the problem.
For example 2 feet is 24 inches. The square root of 2 is 1.41421356, and the square root of 24 is 4.89897949.
