If they are "short tons" exactly 12,000 pounds. If they are metric tons or "long tons" slightly more: 13,440 pounds. A short ton is equal to 2,000 lbs. and a metric ton is equal to 1,000 kg. Notice whichever kind it is, they are within 10% of each other. See the Web Links about tons to the left for more about the kinds of tons. Note also, it doesn't matter that the CO2 is liquid solid or gas. The mass is the same regardless.

How many pounds of CO2 in one ton of coal?

Assuming that coal is essentially pure carbon, each 12 kg of coal will combust to form 44 kg of carbon dioxide (C+O2 -->CO2) a bit more than 3 times as much carbon dioxide as coal. A ton of carbon will burn to form about 3 tones of carbon dioxide.

How many pounds of carbon equals one ton?

You must determine how many grams are in a tonne. You then must then use the molecular weight of carbon to determine the moles of carbon in that many grams (i.e. (grams C)/(M.W. of C)). As there is one mole of Carbon in each mole of carbon dioxide, then multiply the resulting moles of carbon by the molecular weight of CO2 and you will have your answer.OR...One metric ton (tonne) of of carbon is equivalent to approximately 3.66 metric tons (tonnes) of carbon dioxide.

When 10 pounds of coal is burned 10 pounds of emissions and ash are produced this is true because of the?

This is mot true. Ten pounds of coal would produce almost 30pounds of carbon dioxide as well as ash, nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide

How many gallons does 3000 pounds equals?

That would be about 375 gallons. Pounds is a unit of mass/weight. Gallons is a liquid measure. They do not convert cleanly. The density of the liquid being measured can make a big difference. If the liquid is water, there is 8 pounds to a gallon.
