A Prime number is a number that has only 1 and itself as factors. (only 2 factors)

This means, only 1 and that number can evenly divide into the number you're talking about.

For example:

7 is prime because the only numbers that divide into 7 are 1 and 7.

10 is NOT prime, because I can divide 1, 2, 5, and 10 into it. it has 4 factors (more than 2) so it is not a prime number.

10 is called a composite number.

A number that is not prime is composite.
