At the bottom, the car has kinetic energy of ½mv2. At the top, the car has kinetic energy of 0. If we ignore friction and wind resistance, the initial kinetic energy is converted to gravitational potential energy of mgh, where the m is again the mass of the car, g is the acceleration of gravity, and h is the vertical change in position of the car. Solving the two equations for h, we get

h=½v2/g=(0.5)(25 m/s)2/(9.8 m/s2)=31.888 m

To find the distance traveled along the road, we use a bit of trigonometry: sin(30°) = h/d = 0.5, so d = 2h = 63.776 meters

Of course, the actual value will be less, due to the friction and wind resistance that we ignored in our calculations.

How long is a continental slope?

The world's combined continental slope is about 200,000 mi (300,000 km) long and descends at an average angle of about 4° from the edge of the continental shelf to the beginning of the ocean basins at depths of 330 - 10,500 ft (100 - 3,200 m). The slope is most gradual off stable coasts without major rivers and is steepest off coasts with young mountain ranges and narrow continental shelves. Slopes off mountainous coastlines and narrow shelves commonly have outcrops of rock. The dominant sediments of continental slopes are muds; there are smaller amounts of sediments of sand or gravel.

Why are phragmites a problem?

In America, not all phragmites are a problem. There is a native species that does not grow as tall or as invasively as the European variety. The European species of phragmites is extremely invasive. It grows tall, does not provide a good food source and it overruns native species. It grows so aggressively that it can take over entire wetlands. It also will grow in the coasts as well.

And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. * 1 Kin 19:11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: * 2 Kin 3:17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
