I wouldn't say that there are MORE scholarships available for Hispanics or Latinos, but there are a growing number of awards targeted to that ethnic group. The reason is that as the US demographic changes, the term "minority," "underserved" or "underrepresented" also changes to reflect the new statistical demographic. Right now, latinos are declared the largest minority group in US. Nowadays they also represent most of the 1st generation college students . Funding agencies have to stay on top of their funding allocations... so the fact that several agencies have shifted awary from funding say African-Americans and lean more toward Hispanic / Latino groups should not surprise you. Also, because scholarship agencies typically receive funding from foundations who strive to reach the large and popular groups in the higher education recruitment movement, we will conitue to see this trend in scholarship distribution practices. Good Luck!

How can you win scholarships with a 17 score on the ACT?

Most scholarships don't look at ACT score (few of them even look at SAT score). There are always plenty that do not look at your grades or test scores at all, but focus on other aspects of your education, background, and personality.

What kind of proof is standard when applying for minority scholarships?

The standards for applying for minority scholarships are just like applying for non minority scholarships. Often you will be asked to provide demographic information -including name, address and social security number. Often you may have to supply your driver license or other state issued id as proof of your identity. Refer to the scholarship application instructions. Many will be more interested in your community service records or high school or college transcripts. Good luck!

Where to Find Scholarships for Hispanics?

In reality, more and more scholarships are being made available for Hispanics these days. The fact of the matter is that millions of people fall under this ethnic category. Thousands of these individuals attend college each year and struggle to pay for tuition and other expenses like many students. There are scholarships available that target this group of students and provide much needed financial aid for educational expenses. With that in mind, a person should absolutely pursue this opportunity to pay for schooling. None of these scholarships are a guarantee for a given student. Obviously, each person will have to earn them through their own merits or abilities. Most scholarships require an application and are based upon academic achievement or an essay of some sort. A student must be prepared to perform some work in order to win one of these scholarships. Otherwise, they will wind up with nothing to show for their hard work. Undoubtedly, winning scholarship awards is not the easiest tasks, but many students need the extra money for tuition or other costs. Fortunately, various organizations and companies offer these scholarships for Hispanics. No student should experience too much trouble finding these offerings. Being chosen for the funds is a completely different matter though. Still, these scholarships are often awarded by particular entities. For instance, organizations with strong ties to the Hispanic community regularly offer scholarships. The same goes for businesses with these same times. In most cases, these scholarships are advertised through various sources, so they are not hidden by any means. Hispanic students can apply for these scholarships with ease. Luckily, students with a Hispanic background can apply for such scholarships that are aimed at themselves. Plus, it is always possible to apply for other general scholarships too. Any student that does not take advantage of these possibilities is putting themselves at a huge disadvantage. College is a very expensive affair for the average person after all. In the end, a student must do whatever they can to pay their tuition and other bills so that they can acquire the education they need and desire. Doing so can lead to better life opportunities soon after.

Empower Yourself and Your Community with a Hispanic Scholarship?

Hispanics are the largest rising ethnic minority group attending college. The implementation of scholarships designated for Hispanic students means a higher possibility for Hispanics to afford a higher education. Latino-based scholarships realize the issues many Latino students face that can be barriers to attending college. These can include English as a second language, lower income than their White counterparts and coming from schools that did not have as many resources as those from higher income neighborhoods. At the same time, these scholarships recognize the importance of the Latino culture to students as a source of pride and positive reinforcement, such as strong family ties and familial support. When searching for Hispanic scholarships, it is a good idea to start at the local level. Several businesses, agencies and organizations offer scholarships for Hispanic students. However, cities with a large population of Hispanics tend to have the most Hispanic scholarships. Check the university’s scholarship office or Latino student organizations to find out how to apply. It is important to apply for other scholarships as well, even if they are not specifically for Hispanic students. Scholarship sponsors value those with strong family values, ethics and a well rounded background, which can work to your advantage. The largest resource of Hispanic scholarships is the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF.org) which has a whole array of Hispanic based scholarships available to Hispanic students of all backgrounds. There are scholarships for all trades and majors, as well as for different levels of education. Competition for scholarships listed on the HSF site is very competitive, but still worth a try, especially if you have a unique background or extemporary merits. Although fastweb.com is not specifically for Hispanic students, you can indicate your ethnicity on the registration form and certain scholarships designated for Latinos will come up in your search results. Use your cultural background to your advantage while writing your scholarship applications. Talk about how being Hispanic has enriched your vocabulary skills, appreciation for culture and how you value opportunities to empower your community and make a difference. Be honest and positive about your background. Attending higher education and attaining a scholarship is a great example for younger Hispanics to look up to. If you are genuine about using your degree for the greater good of the Latino community, scholarship donors are more likely to pick you as their recipient.
