the speakers in the thunderbird are standard paper cone speakers. They are not 3-way though the stock amp in my 95 had plenty enough to drive 4 4-way speakers that i put in it.
4 way. More speakers, more sound. think of it as surround sound.
The speakers in the front door are 5 1/4-inch two-way speakers. The speakers in the kick panel are 6 1/2 inches. The rear speakers are 6 3/4 inches.
the front speakers are 4"x6" the rear speakers are 3-1/2"
4 way speaker will have 4 voice coils - bass, mid range, high range and a tweeter. 2 way will have 2 coils.

4 way speakers are one bass speaker, one midrange speaker, one tweeter, one super tweeter, but some company's are putting 2 tweeters in to make a 5 way speaker. in my opinion all you need is 4 way speakers.

There is a way you can put 4 speakers on 2 channels. You can also put 2 subs on 2 different channels.
The size of the tweeters in the dash are 3-1/2", while the door speakers are 6-3/4"
Component system 6 1/2"woofer and 1" tweeter in doors, and 4x10" 2-way speakers in rear roof. This is on a two door model. 4 door models will have 6 3/4" in the rear doors.
No that would be a 2 channel amp. 1 speaker per channel. 2 speakers= 2 channels 4 speakers= 4 channels
