# Can a fraction be a whole number?

No. A whole number cannot be a fraction. However, a whole number can be written in rational form. This is done by dividing the whole number by 1. You can then find equivalent rational expressions if you multiply both , its numerator and denominator, by the same non-zero integer.

For example,

17 can be written as the rational number 17/1 and equivalent ratios are (17*3)/(1*3) = 51/3. Wiki User

2/1 4/2 6/3 8/4 etc

3/1 and you get the idea.

They are still fractions, but they represent whole numbers like 1, 2, 3 etc.   Wiki User
