Of course you can. If the 96 had a 350 to begin with, it would be a lot easier. Just for electrical and computer stuff. Only problem you may run into is that if you choose to keep the carb setup on the donor motor, the chances of you passing emissions are slim to none. It is, however, illegal in Canada and the USA. Both countries have environmental laws which prohibit vehicles from being retrofitted with older engines. It is legal to put a newer engine into an older vehicle, though.
