In Jimn DeFede's excellent 9/11 book "The Day the World Came to Town," De Fede tells the story of how Gander came to the aid of the people whose planes were forced to in the wake of the 9/11 attack in New York. Near the end of the book, De Fede has a very moving account of a visit to the memorial built at the site of the 1985 plane crash, with a detailed description of the crash and its aftermath.
