Just yesterday I used the formula for the volume of a cone.

I had leveled the earth inside the foundations of a green house I am building then I realized I needed to remove 5 cm, put down a geotextile and put some sand instead, on which to lay the ground tiles. I shoveled earth out and made a conical heap, used the formula for the volume of a cone (V = 1/3 Pi*r2 * h) to get the volume of earth that I removed. It worked.

Surface of a cone or pyramid was longer ago...
