Normally, yes. You will need to be able to communicate with other people, read about new research and developments and so forth. Of course, you may be surrounded by people who all speak a language other than English and so you may be able to communicate without using English. Furthermore, the majority of international journals are published in English. Not all papers will be translated into your language.
