The word 'and' is used in two places: 1). in place of the decimal pont (2.4 = "two and four tenths") 2). between the whole number and the fraction in a mixed number (2-1/2 = "two and one half") Notice that 203 is NOT "two hundred and three". It is "two hundred three".
