What electrical wiring is required when fitting a new kitchen?
AWG 12/2 wire on a 20 amp breaker. There must be 2 kitchen outlet circuits and each circuit must be protected with a GFCI outlet. Each of these items must be on it's own dedicated 20 amp circuit. Garbage disposal, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator. This will require 6 dedicated 120 volt 20 amp circuits plus a 240 volt 60 amp circuit for the range.

On a split receptacle the tie bar is removed on the hot side (brass) of the receptacle but not on the neutral (silver) side. The red wire is connected to the top brass screw, the black wire is connected to the bottom brass screw and the white (neutral) wire is connected to the other side of the receptacle The rating of the breaker in the panel will be, 2 pole 15 amp. What this gives you is 2 separate 120 volt 15 amp circuits on one receptacle If the voltage was measured between the two hot slots on the right side of the receptacle top and bottom you would measure 240 volts. This voltage would only be 240 if the breaker feeding the receptacle was full size 2 pole and not mini breakers.

Pinning breakers is becoming a thing of the past. This is due to the manufacturing of two pole breakers with one common trip reset handle. The electrical code states that on a 240 volt breaker if one leg trips the other leg must be disconnected from the supply also. This is a safety factor so that if they weren't tied together and one leg tripped the other half of the breaker would remain "hot". Any one working on that circuit in the tripped position could get a nasty shock from the un-tripped leg. Pinning the breakers on 240 volts was done because it was convenient to use single pole breakers in the distribution panel. To abide by the code the two single pole breakers were common tied together. When the branch circuits share a neutral to a common box they have to be common tied for the same reason above. This type of circuit is found on kitchen counter receptacles. Two separate circuits that share a neutral and go to separate junction boxes do not need the breakers tied.

How much can you hook up on a 30 amp circuit This mobile home being remodeled is hooked up to 30 amp circuit. It is a 21 w kitchen and living room. Currently there are only 4 20am breakers?
There are only 4, 20 amp breakers supporting the whole house. The plan is hooking up properly the home a breaker to each room, GFCI to the bathroom and kitchen area, and separate circuits for lights. The question is how much is too much? The breaker box can not be increased in AMPS so 30 is the limit.
