A pentagon has 5 diagonals.

From any one corner, you can draw two diagonals. There are five corners, so that would mean a total of 5 times you could draw 2 diagonals, equalling 10, except that you'd be counting each diagonal twice - once from each of its ends. So, you divide the total number of ten in half, and get 5.

The formula for number of diagonals of any polygon is n*(n-3)/2, where n is the number of sides.
