Yes, of course it does. If you're trying to convert inches to feet and you multiply by 12
instead of dividing, you're going to get the wrong answer.
Since this is so very obvious, I can only hope you were asking if it matters if you
divide by 12 or multiply by 1/12 in the above example. In which case the answer is
no, it does not, both of these give the same result.
========================
Another way to think about it . . .
Multiplying and dividing by the same conversion factor will give you
two different answers.
Since there can't be two different correct answers, at least one of them
must be wrong.
(If you made a mistake in your arithmetic, then they could both be wrong.
The best possible result is that one is right and the other is wrong.)
If the best possible result of two different methods is one right answer and
one wrong answer, then it makes a difference which method you choose,
doesn't it ?
you multiply when you see this x
F to C Deduct 32, then multiply by 5, then divide by 9 C to F Multiply by 9, then divide by 5, then add 32
You must get the units to cancel out; for example 12 inch * 1 foot/12 inch the inch cancels and leaves the answer in feet which is 1.
If the numbers are separated by a multiplication symbol ( X ) then you multiply. If they are separated by a division symbol ( / or a short horizontal line with a dot above and a dot below), Then you divide.
Each yard has 3 feet, each foot has 12 inches. Therefore, the conversion factor is 36. If you have yards, multiply by 36 to get inches. If you have inches, divide by 36 to get yards.Each yard has 3 feet, each foot has 12 inches. Therefore, the conversion factor is 36. If you have yards, multiply by 36 to get inches. m or d, makes no real difference whether eg you multiply by 2 then divide by 3 or divide by 3 then multiply by 2.
you multiply when you see this x
Multiply by 9, then divide by 5, then add 32
Multiply cm by 10 to get mm. Divide mm by 10 to get cm.

You look up the conversion factor, then either multiply or divide by that conversion factor. example: an inch has 2.54 cm., so to convert from inches to cm. you multiply by 2.54; to convert from cm. to inches, you divide by 2.54.
When you add or subtract fractions you cross multiply and when you multiply or divide fractions you across multiply.
product is to multiply and quotient is to divide.!
mm-->in... divide by 25.4.... in-->mm... multiply by 25.4Direct Conversion Formula ____ mm*1 in25.4 mm=? in
