How many wild elephants are left in the world?

Once numbering in the millions, the African elephant population has dwindled to between 470,000 and 690,000 individuals according to a March 2007 estimate. The world population of Asian elephants -- also called Indian Elephants -- is estimated to be around 60,000. There are an estimated 500,000 African and 40,000 Indian elephants alive, including about 2000 total in zoo populations. A reduction in the illegal ivory trade would improve their chances of survival, as many are illegally killed by poachers each year. Habitat loss is another major threat in India and other Asian elephant countries. African- about 600,000 Asian- about 80,000

What is the difference between the Asian elephant and the African elephant?

some differences in African and Asian elephants is that: African elephants weigh up to 4000 - 7000 kg and have a height of about 3 - 4m, though Asian elephants only weigh about 3000 - 6000 kg and have a height of 2 - 3 and a half metres. African elephants skin is a lot darker and more wrinkled, where as Asian elephants have lighter and smoother skin. African elephants have a concave back, where Asian elephants have a straight or slightly humped back. African Elephants have a sloped head, with no bumps, bulges or denses. Where as Asian elephants have rounded heads with some bumbs and have a dint on the top of their head. African Elephants have larger ears with a size of 4m, and the ears cover its neck. Where as Asian elephants have smaller ears and it doesn't cover its neck. In African elephants, both male and female elephants have tusks, though male elephants tusks are larger. Though with Asian elephants, yes the males grow tusks as well, but the females don't. And if they do, they are barely visible anyways. Also on the end of a African elephants trunk, it has two fingers. Though Asian elephants only have one finger. ( These are true facts, I got them off my science teacher who specialises in differences found in similar mammals. )

Is an elephant bigger then an ant?

There are similarities and differences. Both are alive. Both are social creatures. Both forage for food. Both seem to be intelligently adapted for the way they live. Both remove the remains of their dead. Both seem to have good memories, for what matters in their lives. But there are more differences. Elephants are huge, compared to ants. Ants can sting, and elephants cannot. Elephants propagate as mammals, while ants propagate as social insects. Elephants are mammals and ants are insects. Elephants can be trained, while ants cannot be trained. They are different colors.
