You change it to a top heavy fraction. Eg.

3 1/2 x 4 3/4 becomes 7/2 x 19/4. Then you multiply them as normal fractions. So 7x19 = 133 and 2x4 is 6, so the answer is 133/6, which simplifies to 132 1/6.
