How come when you pick any number and multiply it by 2 and add 6 to the answer and take away the number you choose you always get 3 as a answer?

Let's test it. I choose 5. 5 x 2 = 10 + 6 = 16 - 5 = 11
Since I didn't get three, either you copied this down incorrectly or it just doesn't work. Either way, we can't explain it.
