The mass number is the number of protons and neutrons that form the nucleus added together. So if we know 24 of these 45 particles have to be neutrons then there must be(45-24)= 21 protons. To check this awnser we look at the atomic number(the one above the symbol for the element) and we can see that it is 21 for scandium meaning our awnser is correct.
