You simply divide everything by 12. However, the measurements should go as follows: 2 cups of sugar (because 10 pounds of sugar has about 24 cups), 2/3 cup of buttermilk (because 1/2 gallon of buttermilk is 8 cups. Divide that by 12; get 2/3 cup.), 1 1/3 Tablespoons of Flour (because one cup of flour is 16 tablespoons; divide that by 12, getting 1 1/3.), 10 Tablespoons of margarine (because there are 8 Tablespoons per stick, times 14, then divided by 12, gives you about 10 Tablespoons), and 3 eggs (because 32 eggs divided by 12 actually gives you 2 and part of another egg. So, as the previous reviewer said, better to go up than down).

If you have a recipe which makes 12 pies and you wish to make one pie, divide the quantity of all the ingredients by 12 . If some of the numbers do not come out as integers (whole numbers), be very careful when rounding up or down since the small change created by "rounding up/down" will actually be a big change proportionately to the rest of the recipe.

Can you replace buttermilk for milk in a recipe?

If you're asking for a buttermilk substitute, place one tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar in a one cup measure. Fill to one cup mark with regular milk and let sit for five minutes. Use for buttermilk in any recipe. I don't think plain milk would give the correct flavor to the recipe.

Can you use margerine instead of butter in a recipe and if so how much margerine do you have to use to equal up to 2 sticks of real butter?

AnswerIf a recipe calls specifically for butter than that is what you must use. It has to do with the percentage of oil present and the stability of the product. You are only ok to use margarine when the recipe says you can do so. Or if it calls for the use interchangibly with butter. It is a one for one split. But pay attention to the water content.
