Actual cost would be the price you would pay for an item or whatever it is you want to do plus all other expenses (freight, taxes etc.) incurred to obtain the item or do the job. All this put together will give you the actual cost or the actual amount of money spent to obtain the item or do the job.

How do you calculate the cost of a unit using actual costing?

Actual costing uses the the actual costs incurred to calculate cost per unit. All you need is the actual costs and the number of units produced/manufactured, divide the two and you will have your actual cost per unit. The same process for overhead allocation as well. The actual overhead costs are allocated on a rate that is based on actual costs. Actual costing is a delayed analysis.

How do you calculate the cost per unit?

Vague question. Here's my attempt. Simple cost is an accumulation of input costs. It is important to include all costs. i.e.(time, material, overhead). It can be actual costs or replacement costs. That gets into pricing, accounting, taxation, and banking. I recommend looking in financial accounting and cost accounting to see which fits best. A general rule: Total manufacturing costs/ total produced units
