You have to consult tables which give the properties of water and steam (commonly called Steam Tables).

You have to calculate the total enthalpy of the steam as delivered, and subtract the enthalpy of the returned condensate (if returned) or of the water as it enters the boiler. In modern steam tables this will be in kilojoules per kilogram. You can multiply by mass to get total energy. To convert to kilowatt-hours, note that 1 kWh = 3.6 MJ.

Various organizations have published steam tables in the past. The one published by the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam is the one to use, particularly the 1997 formulation for industrial application. There are some free caclulators online which claim compliance to the algorithms, but I can't vouch for any of them.

It is not straightforward and you may want the services of a competent steam engineer (that leaves me out. I may be able to hack my way through, but I am not "qualified" in this area.)

How much coal does a 10 MW power plant use daily?

Coal releases about 14-15,000 btu's of heat per pound. This will on average produce about 12 lbs of high quality superheated steam. With a **steam rate of an engine at about 4 lbs of steam per kilowatt produced, this coal plant can produce about 3 kilowatts per pound of coal burned. So to produce 10 MW of electricity this hypothetical plant will burn about 3,334 lbs. of coal per hour. In a day the coal consumed will be about 80, 000 lbs or 40 tons. *Actual fuel conditions, combustion efficiency, boiler efficiency and engine efficiency would need to be determined for any particular power plant to determine actual coal usage in that plant. **steam rates of different power plants can range from about 3.5 lbs steam/ KW to more than 10 lbs of steam/ KW.

Should depreciation be provided for idle asset?

Temporary idle activity does not preclude depreciating the asset, as future economic benefits are consumed not only through usage but also through wear and tear and obsolescence.

Difference between saturated and superheated steam?

Saturated steam occurs when steam and water are in equilibrium. If you have a closed container of water and heat it, above 100 celsius the steam pressure will start to rise, and as the temperature continues to rise, the pressure will go on rising. What is happening is that steam is being evolved to match the temperature (steam tables will give this relation) and the steam conditions are said to be saturated because if the pressure is raised by external means, some of the steam will start to condense back to water. If the steam pressure is held at a lower level than that achieved at saturation, by taking steam off to feed a turbine or other steam usage, there is effectively an excess temperature for that pressure, and the steam is said to be superheated. It in fact then becomes dry, and behaves as a gas. The amount of superheat can be quantified as so many degrees of superheat (celsius or fahrenheit). Turbine designers want steam to be superheated before reaching the turbine, to avoid condensation causing blade erosion, and steam producing boilers in power plants are designed to produce superheated steam.
