for subtracting fractions you must find a common denominator. For example

4/6 -1/3 then you must either multiply 1/3 by 2 or divide 4/6 by 2. Id you choose to multiply then you get 4/6 - 2/6 and then you just subtract 4 and 2 and leave the common denominator out of this. the answer to this question is 2, them you add the denominator to make it 2/6. Then you should put it into lowest terms. In this equation you can divide by 2 to get 1/3.

To multiply you must cross reduce then multiply the denominator and the numerator. And then you will get you answer

Why do you need a common denominator when adding and subtracting fractions but not when you multiply or divide fractions?

For subtracting and adding you cannot add or subtract unalike things. For multiplication and division you can multiply by whatever you want. In some maths you even multiply by variables such as "x". Or divide by them.

What can you do with integers?

you can add subtract multiply and divide them.

When doing fractions why is it easier to multiply and divide fractions than add and substract fractions?

It is easier to multiply or divide fractions than to add or subtract fractions because in multiplication, you just have to multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator. Same applies with division of fractions, except that you have to reciprocate the fraction you're dividing with (divisor) then proceed to multiplication. Whereas, in addition and subtraction of fractions, you still have to get their Least Common Denominator (LCD).

Do you need a common denominator for all fractions before doing the order of operations?

You DO need a common denominator to add, subtract, or compare fractions. You DO NOT need a common denominator to multiply or divide fractions.
