How do you make a checkerboard?

Cut out 64 small squares (1 to 1.5 inches), 32 red and 32 black, and paste them in alternating colors onto a board so that you have 8 squares by 8 squares. Or, take a square board that is already red or black, and use 32 squares of the other color, again producing a grid that is 8 squares by 8 squares.

How many squares of shingles will it take to cover a 28 by 60?

I will assume that you mean 28 x 60 feet which would be 1680 square feet. A square of asphalt shingles is normally 100 square feet of coverage. Therefore, it would require approximately 17 squares of asphalt shingles to cover the specified area.An allowance of 5 to 10 percent should also be made for waste. There are many different sized squares on a chessboard. The smallest squares are in an 8x8 grid, so we have 64 small squares. There are 7x7 2x2 squares, so we have 49 2x2 squares There are 6x6 3x3 squares, so we have 36 3x3 squares There are 5x5 4x4 squares, so we have 25 4x4 squares There are 4x4 5x5 squares, so we have 16 5x5 squares There are 3x3 6x6 squares, so we have 9 6x6 squares There are 2x2 7x7 squares, so we have 4 7x7 squares And there's the one big square that's the chessboard.
