A rectangle is a 2D shape, therefore not having a "surface" The only "surface" a rectangle has is it's area.

To work out the area you simply multiply the height and the length together.
In this case the height is 4 and the length is 8. 4 x 8 = 32.
The area is 32. BUT since this is area, me must state our answer in (measurement) squared. in this case it is in metres, so our answer must be in metres squared. Our answer was 32 so we add the metres squared and we have 32 metres squared. Voila!
A rectangle is a plane figure and has no volume.
Because it depends on how big the retangle/square is.
A a solid figure on a flat surface is a plane figure (I do believe)
